If you like spaces that sit somewhere between gallery, studio, and beautifully designed “world,” Vague Kobe might just be for you. Created by Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio, an interdisciplinary collective of artists with bases in Kobe (Japan) and Arles (France), it’s a place where exhibitions, objects, and spatial design come together.

The gallery is housed inside the historic Chartered Building on Kaigandori (a former bank building with a bold presence), and the venue often changes character depending on what’s on—so it’s worth checking the Vague “what’s on” page before you go. If you’re exploring the port / Kyukyoryuchi area, it’s an ideal “go in for 15 minutes, stay much longer” kind of place, and for photography enthusiasts, The Book End is just up the road.
